The Abandoned Castle Village was part of the Abandoned Fairy Tale Theme Park!  But it was just too big for a single post!  While I was outside exploring the village, Zenning wth Zay found a way inside!





Now before we head inside, here is a handful of drone shots.  Sadly it was brutally cold & the drone doesn't like that so I was only able to get a few.  Our first visit last so long I didn't have time to get any drone shots!





Once inside the Abandoned Castle Village we were immediately blown away!  There were so many collectables & what could be antiques!  I especially loved the armour suits & giant elephant!





Then I found stairs leading to a basement!  That turned out to be pretty awesome as it was done up to look like a dungeon!  It was total darkness down there so I was glad to have my light otherwise I may have missed it all.





From what I've found out, there used to be escape room held down here during the final years of this place.  They actually all had great reviews which leads me to believe the Fairy Tale Park wasn't generating as much interest & was given less attention,  Mind you that is just  one possibility.





There have been numerous people commenting on what the status of this place is so here is what I know.  There is a proposal in to have the land use changed which likely means developed into houses or commercial.  Either way, I doubt this place ill ever open again.  Oh & last but not least, the Dracula!  Talk about nightmare fuel!!

Back in the summer of 2021 Zenning with Zay & I decided to check out this Abandoned Fairy Tale Park!





It was July & the mosquitos were pretty bad here.  Fortunately we had bug spray!  We had been wondering about this place for a bit & heard it was closed for renovations.  But the closure lasted a long time so we finally decided to poke around!





This place has been around for nearly 50 years & kids who once visited were bringing their own kids to it. However, it seems that things went downhill after it was sold. From the reviews it sounded like they were really working on it & actively replying to comments. But that stopped at the end of 2017. 2018 reviews are pretty bad & you could tell the end was near.





I must say that the place was looking in rough shape when we went.  It really didn't seem all that safe.  That said I did enjoy the grounds! The buildings are so unique & interesting.





The Abandoned Fairy Tale Park was aimed at younger kids.  I could see older kids being bored pretty quickly.   There really wasn't much to actually do there.  Its basically a big park with fairy tale themed exhibits.





All the little houses had a fairy tale theme but you could only look in through the windows.  This was kinda lame to me but makes sense.  Since this place being for little kids  I am sure it would go sideways pretty quick if you could go in!  But like I said, you would lose interest pretty quick.





Now there was one house left to check.  Much to my surprise the door was open!  Turns out it was Grandma's House complete with the Big Bad Wolf & Little Red Riding Hood!  It was pretty awesome in there with all the attention to detail!  Th wolf though was pretty creepy!

I mean look at this thing!  It's terrifying & I am sure scared plenty of youngsters!    The adventure isn't done here!  There is still the caste to explore so stay tuned!

Exploring this Abandoned Theme Park was definitely one of the highlights of the road trip!  This was about the mid point to the road trip & was the first explore after part one of the the blog!





The Abandoned Theme Park was something I just so happened to hear about only days before Zenning with Zay & I hit the road!  I really had no idea what to expect so we were extra cautious at first.  But it wasn't that way the entire time!  We quickly became comfortable with the park up until we spotted security.  Then it became a game of hide  seek.





The history of this Abandoned Theme Park was quite eventful for having been around for a relatively short period of time.  The park was funded & constructed entirely by the province & opened in 1989 at a cost of $23 Million!  In less than 5 years rumors swirled that the park was in danger of shutting down which prompted a group of local businesses made a bid to take it over.  The bid didn't measure u to a bid made by 16 businessmen from Hong Kong.  Unfortunately these businessmen had little interest in the actual park.  Turns out by investing in the park they were able to gain immigration into Canada through an investment program.





The businessmen had only laded a 3 year lease during shih time they made numerous which led to a drop in attendance of around 22%. This is a huge number & the original group that made a bid, finally won it uncontested in 1996 for a 10 tear lease. Sadly by this time the park had suffered from years of neglect & missing inventory. Two years later after winning their bid, the government invented $1.4 million & another million in 2003. A previously closed tunnel that connected two area was reopened as attendance rose to 100,000! The management team had turned the deficit into a surplus of 200K!





In 2007 the park was sold to a local not for profit group for $1 million. The province kicked in an additional $1.3 million for capital improvements & to fund the transition. In the same year the group declared the park to officially be debt free! The park manager also stated the park created 200 direct & 200 indirect jobs & was a major part of the local economy.





Now the first shot from the set below might look familiar. It was actually the Haunted Abandoned Stone Mansion! I figured it was big enough on its own for a stand-alone post so there it is!   Apparently that was actually donated by a kindly older man who had hopes of seeing a theme park there.  Well that's what I was told when I posted it! Then I headed over to the rollercoaster.  Zay had already been over there but it was now my time.  Go figure security is lurking in the area.  I had to cut my trip over to that area short so I can get back to the rest of rides!





With numerous confirmed sightings now of security we headed back to where we first came into the park which was by the waterslide & flume ride. These two spots were pretty awesome & obviously based on the number of pics I took, the flume ride was my fave! I was disappointed we had to cut our visit short due to security but it was an amazing explore!! The plan for the property was to clear the land, repurpose rides & attractions else where & hopefully build a private school. The last article I saw was some legal issues in December where some shady dealings had occurred. I also read of security not being paid at times. Pretty crazy explore & story nonetheless!!

For years Zenning with Zay & I drove past the Abandoned Shanty Bay Go-Karts & said we should stop here.  Finally in the early summer of 2021 we finally did!


Back in mid 2020 I did stop by while heading out on a solo adventure.  It was the first time I tried to fly my drone after crashing into a boat & sinking it in Georgian Bay but that's another story!  Thankfully the resurrection was a success!  Those photos have been posted before but these are all new!





The whole property is very overgrown & falling to bits. Despite the track stating in would reopen in 2020, it clearly wasn't anywhere close to being ready. That said the track as in good condition but the rest of the property was a mess! The mini putt was VERY overgrown & looked like it had been neglected for a decade. The putting greens were torn up everywhere & the concrete obstacles throughout were crumbling.  It was pretty beat!





The track itself was in fairly good condition but did show its age. From what I understand the track is a fll kilometer in length. The advertisement for the karts stated they were capable of reaching speeds of up to 45km/h however MANY reviews stated this was not the case. In fact it seems that many of the newer reviewes for this place were complete nonsesne. Especially since many were added within the last year! I suspect these comments on the Abandoned Shanty Bay Go-Karts were to boost the number of reviews they have on Google.





Like I said, the track itself seemed to be it pretty good condition. If cat, I wanted to take our truck out for a rip on it but didn't think the bridge would hold it, plus it'd draw a HUGE amount of unwanted attention so I passed! A lot of the reviews made complaints about the price being $5 a lap & it generally being a rip off.  Many also complained about the owner.  Sad really as this looked like it could have been a lot of fun if the price was right & the karts actually ripped!





From my understanding when speaking with a buddy there used to be a McDonald's there but unsure where exactly. I had driven by this place for many years & never gave it much of a glance because I was either heading north or heading home. Either way, it was always eyes on the road due to wild cottage country traffic! The roof is missing a lot of shingles & we could see water damage. I recall it looking like it would open again soon when we checked on it a while back but these days, I'd say that won't happen.





We finally found our way inside to the one side of the building. For the most part it was clean but the water damage was visible in the ceiling tiles. It was surprising to see the power still on in the corridor leading to the bathrooms & gas station. I took a couple shots of the gas bar & as we headed in...things took a turn for the worse...but you'll have to watch the video to see what happened!!!

The Abandoned Splatalot Gameshow Set was a very unique explore!

The former Canadian TV show Splatalot has been demolished however not before I had a chance to explore it!  Filming began in 2010 at the rural set in Amaranth Township just outside Shemburne Ontario.  Two seasons were filmed here  before the set was mothballed.

Each episode started with 12 contestants who were attackers to the castle & it's gladiators known as Defenders. The contestants would have to avoid water cannons, giant axes & various other obstacles to eventually capture the crown.

Sometime in 2016 explorers discovered the mothballed set & a massive exodus took place in the province & beyond to explore this very unique location.  Cars would line the street drawing major attention to the set forcing the township to hold the media company accountable for round the clock security.  This was fairly effective however it didn't thwart trespassers.  I spoke with a former security guard who told me that even in the dead of night he would see people sneaking through the thick forest to gain access to the set.  He was advised to call the police & not engage as often times they were drunk hooligans!

After endless headaches for local law enforcement the media company decided it was time to tear down the set at the end of 2018.  Here are some behind the scenes photos of the demolition of Abandoned Splatalot.
